On 8 October 1970, Hazel picked up her work colleague Joyce Eastwood from home, along with her two sons, to attend their place of employment (Noarlunga Meatworks).
The boys were dropped off at the gate whilst Hazel parked the car. There was a security guard on duty at the gate and he stated that the women arrived at the meatworks between 7.00am – 8.00am where they unloaded two suitcases and were almost immediately both collected by a male taxi driver and drove off, leaving the car (a Mini Minor) in the car park.
It is believed that the women both handed in the resignations about a week prior to leaving. No contact has ever been received from any members of the families.

Gordon Bruce Rogers, then aged 20 years, was last seen in Beachport, SA at approximately 3.30am on 2 August 1970. He was reported missing at Beachport Police Station at 10.30am the same day by a friend and work colleague.
Gordon was a Canadian Citizen and resident of Saskatchewan, Canada. He was on a working holiday in Australia after arriving in Sydney on 28 March 1970 on a twelve month visa. After travelling for a short time he was employed by the Woods and Forest Department as a labourer. He intended to work for them for six weeks before travelling to New Zealand.
On the day of his disappearance, Gordon had attended a party in Beachport and been drinking with the friend who subsequently reported him missing. The friend stated that he left the party to take his girlfriend home and asked another male to take Gordon home. The other male stated that he took another female home first and when he returned to the party Gordon was no longer there. Gordon has not been seen or heard from since.
Police suspect that Gordon has been murdered.

William Day, 24, was last heard from by his family in August 1970. He was known to be residing in Bondi with two other British nationals. He told his family that he was travelling to Queensland with a friend “Peter Brown”. He has not been seen since. “Peter Brown” has been identified as Pasquale Macari, the perpetrator of the $500,000 Qantas bomb hoax extortion plot in 1971. William has not been seen or heard from since and there are concerns for his welfare.

On Saturday, 1 August 1970, Helen Evonne Barker visited a friend’s house in Boulder. When she arrived her friend was not at home. At about 7pm her friend’s mother gave her a lift back towards her home at Milton Street, Boulder, dropping her off about 50 metres away.
Helen did not arrive home and was reported as a missing person. She has not been seen since.
The person or persons responsible for Helen’s disappearance have not been identified.

Cheryl Gene Grimmer was last seen on 12 January 1970 at Fairy Meadow Beach, Wollongong, NSW. Cheryl, who was just three years old at the time of her disappearance, had spent the morning at the beach with her mother and three elder brothers.
Cheryl was abducted from outside the change shed at the beach. Investigations since her disappearance have failed to find any trace of Cheryl and it is believed she has been murdered.
On 18 February 2020, the Police Minister at the time issued a reward of $1,000,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the abduction and murder Cheryl.
