On the morning of Tuesday 10 December 2019 Carmel Cassar departed Scarborough Harbour, north of Brisbane, Queensland in his 50ft Dufor Classic sailing yacht, named Sailing Vessel (SV) SPICE.
On the evening of the 10th the wind increased and the jib broke, however the vessel continued on using the mainsail and inboard motor.
On the afternoon of 12 December 2019, the gooseneck fitting which secured the boom to the mast broke causing the boom to collapse. Running repairs were made and the journey continued.
On the morning of 14 December 2019 the vessel arrived at Cato Reef, 375km east of the Australian mainland (23-14.7S-155-32.4E). Cato Reef is the area surrounding Cato Island. Cato Island is a small uninhabited island that contains only a weather station. The distance from Scarborough Marina to Cato Reef is approximately 269NM (500km). The journey took roughly 4 days, estimating an average speed of 2.8kts (5.2km/hr).
After arrival Carmel travelled 350m on the tender to Cato Island before returning to the anchored SV SPICE to rest.
After returning to the vessel Carmel showered before lying down for a sleep. At about 10:30am on 14 December 2019 Carmel was in his berth towards the bow of the boat. Carmel was moving to the lounge area on the deck and complained that the sun was coming through the hatch above his bed.
At around 12:45pm Carmel was unable to be located on the vessel. A search of the boat and the surrounding waters was conducted, however found no sign of Carmel.

Zehong Chen was last seen onboard an International shipping vessel at 1am on 30 November 2019 offshore near Fremantle, WA. Search and Rescue was conducted and was unsuccessful. Zehong has not made contact with family or colleagues since.

Qiuping Yuan, also known as ‘Apple’, aged 43, left her home at Concord West on Friday 1 November 2019 and attended a relatives house at Russell Lea. She left about 7am and has not been seen or heard from since.
Investigations to date have revealed that Qiuping got off a train at Central Railway Station, Sydney about 10am on Friday 1 November 2019.
Qiuping was last seen wearing a white and green shirt, dark pants, tan shoes and carrying a blue ‘Nike’ backpack.
Police continue to hold serious concerns for the well-being of Qiuping.

Police believe Ruth Ridley, aged 58, travelled from her home in Port Macquarie to Tumbarumba in the Riverina region on Friday 18 October 2019.
Police believe that Ruth may have been travelling in a dark blue Mitsubishi Pajero towing a white caravan, heading towards camping and fishing spots along the Murray River, particularly near Jingellic on the NSW and VIC border.

Between 9:00am and 10:00am on Wednesday 16 October 2019 Bernie left his residence at House 3 Urapunga Community to go on his daily walk into nearby bushland. He was observed leaving the community on foot and was last seen near the vicinity of the old abattoir dressed in a light coloured t-shirt or collared shirt, black coloured shorts, wearing thongs and carrying a black Mission Australia bag. His direction of travel was reported to be along the fence-line of the Urapunga Airstrip in a westerly direction. His eldest son, Heston had purchased a tin of Log Cabin tobacco for his father from the local community store early that morning and he departed the community likely carrying with him provisions for the day including a tin of meat and an unknown quantity of water. Bernie was known to walk every day but never overnight, always returning before the end of the day.
Bernie’s sons became concerned when their father failed to return that evening and began a search utilising the assistance of local community members, after sighting a fire up on the escarpment area to the north-west of the community.
Police were notified the following morning and despite an extensive five day SARMAC search by air, land, and water Bernie was not found. The weather on the day Bernie went missing and the following days during the search were extreme, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius with no rain and high humidity.

Sakithivel Loganathan is an Indian national that was working for a software company near Wynyard Station, NSW.
On Sunday 15 September 2019 he spoke with friends, cancelling plans to go cycling, and has not been heard from or seen since. Police hold concerns for his safety.
